Linked below are several direct actions you can take to help support our goals, including: shared governance and institutional democracy; protections for academic freedom; protections for vulnerable campus community members; financial transparency/accountability; fair pay for workers; and affordability for students.

1. READ & SUPPORT THE OREGON COMPACT FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

2. PARTICIPATE IN YOUR CAMPUS LABOR UNION AND/OR PARTICIPATING STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

3. ASK YOUR UO SENATOR TO SUPPORT OUR GOALS + ATTEND SENATE & BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETINGS!

4. ATTEND ASUO GENERAL ASSEMBLIES TO BUILD STUDENT POWER

Follow United Academics on social media for regular updates!

In addition to the above priority actions, here are some other actions you can ALWAYS take:

  • Write to your dean and/or Provost Long
  • Use the information on this site to write editorials for local newspapers – The Register-Guard, Eugene Weekly, The Oregonian, Lookout Eugene-Springfield, and The Statesman Journal in Salem.
  • Speak to members of the UOs Board of Trustees about our goals. You can email them individually by clicking their Trustee profiles (this is the best option, as emails sent to trustees@uoregon.org are not necessarily read by individual trustees). You can also give a 3-min public comment at Board of Trustees meetings each term. Schedule of meetings and sign up instructions here
  • Write or call your state representatives and state senators: they need to hear from UA members so that they can make informed decisions related to higher education in Oregon.
  • Write or call your congressional representatives and senators: for all the talk of structural deficits in Oregon, the crisis in higher education is national, affects the future livelihood of all Americans, and demands a comprehensive, national response.
